“I have been collecting organic objects over time, consisting mainly of bones, insects, and small animals which I have found lifeless, often times only the remaining fragments.
The inherent beauty of these forgotten little departed objects, the remnants of what once were, attracted me from a young age. I have meticulously combined them with my love for the striking detail of Victorian ornament, motifs and patterns to produce a range of haute couture oxidised silver adornments.
Each piece is unique and portrays the spirit of the organic remnant displayed through it, festooned with precious stones and immortalised through the jewellery. With my work I aim to soften the morose subject of death by reviving these objects in inimitably stylised Victorian scrollwork, resulting in a contemporary memento mori jewellery collection, which is desirable to wear and makes contemplating our own fleeting existence a pragmatic, yet simultaneously sensual experience.
By wearing one of these jewellery pieces, one is constantly reminded of one’s own imminent mortality and of those already departed. However, by choosing to adorn the body with it, one also confirms minded acceptance of this ephemeral fate.”
